Salaam Said Salim Al Shaksy - Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Salaam Said Salim Al Shaksy is the chief executive officer of National Bank of Oman (NBO), effective March 17, 2010.

Al Shaksy, 49, will lead, direct and manage NBO’s strategic directions to grow and transform the bank while focusing on innovative business goals.

His career with the banking industry began in 1992 when he joined Citibank Global Consumer Business, Dubai. Thereafter he moved to NBO. In NBO, he continued to expand his experience and knowledge of the industry whilst working in senior positions as Assistant General Manager - Retail Banking, and prior to his departure, as Deputy General Manager covering Retail Banking, Investment Banking and Correspondent Banking. 

In 2000, Al Shaksy joined Majan International Bank as General Manager. He successfully managed the merger between Majan International Bank and Bank Dhofar which consequently led to his new position as Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Bank Dhofar.

Prior to joining NBO, Salaam worked in Dubai, as Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Islamic Investment Group and later between June 2008 and March 2010 as Chief Executive Officer, Dubai Banking Group and Dubai Bank.

His significant credentials include a B. A. Degree, Cum Laude from Boston University, a Master of Science, Honours in Management Information Systems, and an MBA, High Honours. He was named ‘Best Banker of the Year’ by The Islamic Business & Finance Award 2008, Dubai.

 

Taqi Ali Sultan - General Manager, Corporate Affairs & Communications

Mr. Taqi Ali Sultan joined the Bank in 1982 and presently holds the position of General Manager, Corporate Affairs & Communications. The position contributes to the Bank's Business Strategy, Internal and External Communications and deals with Governmental, Media and Regulators’ Relationships. He plays an important liaison role with the Bank's branches in Abu Dhabi and Egypt.

Mr. Taqi graduated from Kuwait University in 1980, specializing in Business and Accounting. He has also attended the Senior Executive Management Programme at the London Business School.

He was assigned to Bank of America, in London, between 1981 and 1982. Throughout his long career Mr. Taqi has served in most areas of the Bank's operations, business administration, credit and Human Resources.

Mr. Taqi was born in 1953.

Khalfan Al Aufi - General Manager and Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Khalfan Al Aufi joined the Bank in 1981 and presently holds the position of General Manager and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the National Bank of Oman. He is responsible for a variety of functions within the Bank including Information Technology, Operational Services, Projects, Procurement & Facilities Management.

Mr. Khalfan's 28-year NBO career stretches across Correspondent Banking, International Financial Institutions, Credit Operations, Trade Finance, Corporate and Retail Operations, Treasury & Investment Banking Operations, Retail Banking and Branch Management, Human Resources and Country Management (Egypt).

He holds a Master of Business Administration from the Strathclyde School of Business, Scotland – UK and a pre-degree in Economics from Arab Beirut University.

Mr. Khalfan was born in 1958.

Nasser Al Rashdi - Chief Risk Officer

Mr. Nasser Salim Al Rashdi joined NBO in June 1993 and presently holds the position of Deputy General Manager and Chief Risk Officer (CRO) of National Bank of Oman. He oversees the Risk function of the Bank which includes Credit Risk, Market Risk, Operational Risk, Information Security & Business Continuity as well as the Remedial Management.

Mr. Nasser’s 17-year in NBO covers Corporate Banking, Project Finance and Risk Management. He worked with Oman Arab Bank prior to joining NBO.

Mr. Nasser holds a degree in Business Engineering from Faculte Universitaire Catholique de Mons (FUCAM) in Belgium.

Nasser was born in 1968.

Nasser Al Bahantah - Deputy General Manager and Chief Human Resources Officer

Mr. Nasser Al Bahantah joined the Bank in February, 2009 and holds the position of Deputy General Manager and Chief Human Resources Officer. Prior to joining NBO, he was the Head of Human Resources at Bank Al Jazira, Saudi Arabia.

Mr. Nasser has an overall experience of almost 20 years in Human Resources in the areas of Business Partnership, Talent Management, Strategic Leadership, and Change Management. His first HR job was at Shell Oman, followed by Schlumberger and Omantel.

Mr. Nasser has a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Yarmouk University, Jordan and Global Executive Masters in Human Resources Leadership from Rutgers University, USA.

He was born in 1967.

David Power - General Manager Retail Banking

Mr. David Power joined the Bank as General Manager – Retail Banking in October, 2009.

In this role, he is responsible for the development and distribution of retail products and services through the 70 branches, the virtual banking channels and the Wealth Management (Sadara) branches. He is also responsible for bank’s retail and brand marketing activities.

Prior to his appointment at National Bank of Oman, Mr. Power held the position of Deputy General Manager for Retail Banking of Gulf Bank in Kuwait for two years. During his professional career spanning over 20 years, he served in a number of leadership positions including Divisional Director of Private Banking at Nedbank Ltd, Johannesburg, South Africa and Head of Priority Banking at Standard Bank Ltd, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Mr. Power is a holder of a Bachelor's Degree in Economics & Business Administration from the University of Cape Town in South Africa in addition to a Post-graduate Diploma in Management from Henley Management College in the UK. He is also an associate member of the Institute of Bankers in South Africa.

Mr. Power is a South African national and was born in 1960.

Humayun Kabir - General Manager, Business Banking

Mr. Humayun Kabir joined the Bank in February 2008 and presently holds the position of General Manager, Business Banking. He is a seasoned professional with more than 20 years of wide-ranging experience of Banking & Financial Services with organizations like ABN Amro Bank Canada, Royal Bank of Canada, Saudi American Bank, Ernst & Young and Inforica Inc, Canada.

Mr. Humayun is responsible for the Business Banking activity which includes Corporate Banking, Investment Banking, Financial Institutions & Corporate Liability Management and Treasury.

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and holds an MBA in General Management from the University of Western Ontario, Canada.

Mr. Kabir is a Canadian National and was born in 1962.

Simon Gibbons - General Manager and Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Simon Gibbons joined the Bank as General Manager and Chief Financial Officer in August, 2009.

His professional career commenced in 1991 with PriceWaterhouse Coopers and then moved to other organizations including Royal & Sun Alliance, Deloitte Consulting and Barclays Bank. He spent a significant portion of his career with Barclays Bank where after a series of UK and International postings he was appointed Chief Financial Officer in charge of the UAE & Gulf activities of Barclays.

In his finance career of almost 20 years, Mr. Gibbons has worked in numerous territories, including the UK, Botswana South Africa, the Caribbean, UAE and Qatar.

Prior to joining National Bank of Oman, Mr. Simon held the position of Chief Financial Officer at Commercial Bank of Qatar.

He is a qualified Chartered Accountant (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales) and has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Newcastle University in the UK.

Mr. Gibbons is a British National and was born in 1968.
